What the office does
The recorder has custody of and keeps all records, maps and papers deposited in the recorder's office, and records every instrument the law requires or allows to be recorded, in the order received: deeds, maps and the rest of the county's land records, kept open to inspection.
Under the election code the recorder is also the county's voter-registration officer, supplying and distributing registration forms and appointing deputy registrars, and the officer an elector asks for an early ballot.
