What the office does

The director is the chief administrative officer of the Planning and Development Services Department, which administers and enforces the Unified Development Code, the city's zoning and development rulebook, and serves as the city's planning agency. That work includes maintaining the official zoning maps, reviewing subdivisions and rezonings, staffing the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment and Design Review Board, deciding administrative modifications and design reviews, and administering historic preservation zones.

The director appoints the Zoning Administrator and performs other duties the city manager or the code assigns.
