What the office does

Not defined in law. The county says the department, operating since July 1, 2024, protects, preserves and celebrates the county's natural and cultural landscapes under the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan: managing the county's mountain parks and other conservation areas and more than 150 miles of trails, 15 county-owned and leased cattle ranches and a farm, environmental education, and the county's centralized office for preserving cultural, archaeological and heritage resources.
