What the office does
The county attorney is the public prosecutor of the county: the office attends the superior and other courts and conducts all prosecutions for public offenses on behalf of the state, draws indictments and informations, and advises the grand jury.
The office is also the county's lawyer. It defends actions brought against the county, acts as legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors, attends its meetings, opposes claims against the county it deems unjust or illegal, and gives written opinions to county officers on their duties.
