What the office does

The town code does not create a stand-alone finance director office; it assigns the job two statutory roles instead. The clerk, who is treasurer by state law, must delegate the treasurer's duties to the finance director, who administers and manages the town's financial assets and liabilities. The finance director is also the town marshal for one purpose only: collecting the town's taxes. As a department head, the finance director serves under the direction of the town manager.
