Pima County halts new data centers for 120 days as Sahuarita residents pack council chambers. The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted to impose a 120-day moratorium on new data center projects in unincorporated areas, according to KVOA. Separately, more than 25 speakers spent nearly 90 minutes during the call to the public at Monday's Sahuarita Town Council meeting, with comments focused primarily on data centers, the Green Valley News reported.

County sets date to interview administrator candidates. Pima County is moving ahead with its search for a new county administrator and has selected a date to interview candidates, KVOA reported.

Sun Tran route changes take effect Sunday. The City of Tucson said Sun Tran, Sun Express and Sun Shuttle will implement service and route changes beginning Aug. 16. Among them, Route 4 will serve Udall Transit Station instead of South Kolb Road, Route 8 will merge with Route 108X and extend to Houghton Road with 15-minute frequency, and Route 9 will be extended to Pima Community College East.

Overnight storms prompt flash flood warning, close roads. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for southwestern Pima County early Wednesday, in effect from 2:20 a.m. to 5:15 a.m., citing heavy rain and flooding. In neighboring Cochise County, crews were working to clear several flooded and storm-damaged roads, KVOA reported. Separately, KOLD reported a serious crash shut down Gates Pass early Wednesday, with no word on injuries.

Mass shooting suspect ordered held without bond. David Leroy French, the suspect in a Tucson mass shooting, appeared in court Tuesday for a no-bond hearing and was ordered held without bond, KOLD reported.
Neighbors raise concerns about new adolescent treatment facility. Residents near a newly opened Artemis behavioral health facility told KGUN 9 that runaway incidents have left them uneasy, while the operator said the adolescents it serves deserve treatment and that neighbors deserve to feel safe.

TUSD board expands AI tools in classrooms on 3-2 vote. The Tucson Unified School District governing board voted 3-2 to revise its artificial intelligence policy, expanding definitions and giving middle school students access to approved platforms, KGUN 9 and KVOA reported.
Marana student arrested over alleged threats. The Marana Police Department said it arrested a Marana Middle School student in connection with alleged threats, according to KOLD News 13. No further details about the nature of the threats were released.

Pascua Yaqui Tribe previews third casino on Tucson's west side. The tribe offered a media tour of Vahi Taa'am, its new gaming venue near Interstate 10 and Grant Road, which is scheduled to open Nov. 15 and will include a sportsbook, according to the Arizona Daily Star, KGUN 9 and KOLD.

500-megawatt solar and battery project floated near Three Points. A Spain-based firm has notified landowners in Three Points, about 35 miles southwest of Tucson, that it is in the planning stages of a 500-megawatt solar and battery storage facility, the Arizona Daily Star reported. The project remains in early planning.

Florence Project says it will keep representing migrant children after federal contract lapses. The federal contract paying for legal services for unaccompanied minors lapsed last week, and the Tucson-based Florence Project says it will continue representing children despite the loss of funding, Arizona Luminaria reported.
